Truck crash claims the life of 10-year-old girl

In the early morning hours of Jan. 25, a pre-teen Ohio girl was killed in a car accident involving a tractor-trailer truck in Mentor. Two other people were seriously injured in the accident.

According to local media reports, authorities received reports of a two-vehicle crash on westbound Interstate 90 between State Route 306 and State Route 615 shortly after midnight. Responding rescue crews found that a tractor-trailer truck had struck a 2008 Chevrolet, forcing the passenger vehicle down an embankment.

Unfortunately, one of the rear passengers in the Chevrolet, a 10-year-old South Euclid girl, was killed in the collision. She was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. The driver of the car, a 37-year-old South Euclid woman, suffered serious injuries and was transported to the ICU at Hillcrest Hospital in Mayfield Heights for treatment. Another rear passenger in the car, a 6-year-old child, also suffered serious injuries and was transported to the ICU at MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland for emergency care. The driver of the tractor-trailer, age 56, was not injured in the accident. So far, police have not filed any charges in the case, but the crash remains under investigation.

When families lose loved ones to fatal truck accidents, they have the right to pursue compensation in civil court. For example, with the help of a lawyer, a family might file a wrongful death lawsuit against the responsible truck driver for damages, including funeral expenses, loss of income and loss of companionship. Victims who are injured in a truck crash may also be able to file a personal injury lawsuit against the driver, which could lead to a settlement for medical expenses, lost wages, pain and suffering and more.
